‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Lead Actor Tom Holland Explains New Comic-Con Footage; Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow Makes Appearance?

Tom Holland is set to portray Peter Parker / Spider-Man in Jon Watts' upcoming 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' film; Photograph from 'Captain America: Civil War'

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ lead actor Tom Holland explained the significance of the new footage revealed during the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. Meanwhile, it was speculated that Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow may be making an appearance in the upcoming film.

According to Comicbook.com, a brand new trailer for Jon Watts’ upcoming installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was debuted at the 2016 Comic-Con during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation.

One scene featured Holland’s Peter Parker not paying attention in class. Instead, he is watching a YouTube video of himself as Spider-Man battling a giant-sized Ant-Man as seen in the blockbuster hit ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

When asked about the significance of the scene, Holland replied, “That’s an interesting question and I don’t know if I can answer it fully… But it’s like when you go on holiday and you come home, back to school and you’re like ‘Wow, I wish I was on holiday again.’ And that’s all I can say without ruining anything.”

Holland explained that Watts intended to create film that mimicked real life. He said, “About a real high school student and what would he do if he got superpowers? And that’s exactly what we’ve been doing. And I think that trailer really demonstrates Jon’s vision and what it is he wants to create and I behind it 100%.”

The 20-year old English actor and dancer was first introduced as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man in the superhero film ‘Captain America: Civil War’ directed by the Russo brothers. His character was well-received and the film went on to become a critical and commercial success. According to Box Office Mojo, the film earned $1.15 billion worldwide on a budget of $250 million.

Joining Holland in the cast are Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as aunt May, Logan Marshall-Green as Phineas Mason a.k.a. Tinkerer, Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture, and Zendaya as Michelle. In addition to Iron Man, it seems like another Avenger will be making an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man standalone film.

According to MovieWeb, Scarlett Johansson was allegedly spotted on the filming set in Atlanta, Georgia. The post on Atlanta Filming’s twitter account triggered speculations that Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow may be making a cameo on the film as well. The vague post didn’t include a photograph to confirm the claim and the report is yet to be confirmed.

‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Jon Watts. It is produced under Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Enterprises, Marvel Studios, Pascal Pictures, and Columbia Pictures. It is scheduled to be released on July 7, 2017.
