Starknet Opens Seven-Day Poll on Independent Quantum-Resistant L1

The nonbinding vote would start research if holders support it; it does not authorize a network transition.

Whether Starknet should explore an independent, post-quantum Layer 1 is before holders of Starknet’s token (STRK), who have seven days to weigh in through a nonbinding poll that opened Thursday, Oct. 15.

The poll does not approve a transition. Starknet’s governance post says the network’s bridge and data-availability components depend on Ethereum and are tied to Ethereum’s timeline. It presents an independent Layer 1 as a way to remove that reliance.

The post characterizes Starknet’s proof system as hash-based and its core protocol as quantum-resistant. It says account-level signature changes can provide post-quantum protection without changing the core protocol.

A Yes vote would move the proposal into study, with a fuller plan and further votes to follow. If holders reject further study, Starknet would continue its quantum-security work as an L2. A Neutral outcome would keep the governance thread open until remaining questions receive answers.

The proposal leaves Starknet’s token unchanged. The post says Ethereum-to-Starknet bridges would remain open and does not propose issuing another token. Results are due to appear as soon as the seven-day poll closes.
