The result authorizes research only. Any move away from Ethereum would require additional governance proposals and votes.

The completed poll sends Starknet’s proposal for a possible standalone network into technical study; the network remains Ethereum-based for now.

Support exceeded 93.5% of voting power, sending the proposal into technical review. Any transition would require separate governance proposals and votes.

Starknet’s governance post said the network’s bridge and data availability functions depend on Ethereum, tying those parts of its operation to Ethereum’s development timeline. The post presented a standalone Layer 1 as a way to remove that reliance. EconoTimes previously described the proposal’s rationale.

Starknet currently operates as a Layer 2 built on Ethereum. The proposed study concerns a separate Layer 1 designed for quantum resistance, but the poll did not approve that change. The poll opened Oct. 15 and ran for seven days. Research is the next step; any network transition would return to holders for further decisions.
