In episode 27 of the fifth season of “Steven Universe,” it was shown that the titular character is no longer able to rely on his old methods to win this particular conflict with the Diamonds. In hindsight, it was silly to believe that simply throwing a party would actually do anything to change Gem culture. This is why “Steven Universe” Season 5 Episode 29 will give Steven his biggest challenge yet.
As OtakuKart notes, the previous episode of the show was calm compared to some of the other installments in the fifth season of the cartoon. For many, it was a welcome break that gave them a reprieve from the tension brought about by dealing with the Diamonds. In “Steven Universe” Season 5 Episode 29, viewers will be brought back to reality, so to speak.
Basically, “Steven Universe” Season 5 Episode 29 is expected to involve Steven finally accepting that his usual methods of relying on discussions and love will not work with the Diamonds. Episode 27 made this clear enough when all of his preparations backfired simply due to the sheer coldness and malice exuded by the Gems.
It is a simple fact that not all of those who live in Gem culture can be redeemed and this goes double for the Diamonds. They simply can’t help themselves from showing their true colors that just happen to be filled with fascism. In “Steven Universe” Season 5 Episode 29, the show’s main character will likely be forced to finally admit this and choose a more violent path.
As a result, “Steven Universe” Season 5 Episode 29 might also feature the death of one or even all of the Diamonds at the hands of Steven and his friends. It isn’t the outcome that he wanted, but he might have no choice on the matter. Fans will find this out for themselves when the one-hour special airs on Jan. 21.
