Sandston, Virginia, Sept. 21, 2017 -- Steves & Sons Inc. today announced employees of its Richmond plant collected a huge volume of supplies for Hurricane Harvey relief and raised more than $2,300 in cash donations to the Steves & Sons Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and the American Red Cross. The company vowed to match the donations to increase the reach of the funds.

“For 150 years, philanthropy has been a pillar of our company’s core values, and that is reflected in the generosity and compassion of our employees,” said Gregg Killelea, general manager of Steves & Sons Inc., Richmond. “We are proud of the way they organized this relief mission and pleased to say the company will match every dollar they raise.”
With support and donations from the community and local churches, Richmond employees of the venerable old Richmond door company collected enough supplies to fill a 30-foot cattle trailer to the brim. The items include food, clothing, baby food, diapers, water, blankets, sleeping bags, toiletries, generators, and other items desperately needed by Texas families negatively impacted by the massive hurricane as it made its way up the Gulf Coast.
Last week, several employees of Steves & Sons’ Richmond staff drove the supply-laden trailer 1,000 miles, from Richmond to Pearland, Texas, one of the areas hardest hit by Harvey. Crosspoint Church Associate Pastor Warrick Baker gratefully received the items and said they will be put to immediate use. Baker is leading relief efforts on the ground in Harris County.
After spending the day unloading the relief supplies, the Steves & Sons employees drove through Pearland, surveying the damage to homes and businesses.
“The effects of Harvey on the Houston Metroplex and the Texas Coast were absolutely devastating, and we felt the immediate urge to help,” said Steves & Sons employee, Jim Hutto. “It was heartbreaking to see everything people owned—clothing, furniture, carpet, sheetrock—destroyed and just stacked at the curb.”
With Steves & Sons coordinating the effort, the same local churches and members of the community that contributed the supplies delivered to the Pearland church have already raised enough supplies to fill the trailer again for a second delivery to Texas.
