‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is set to feature its main characters rocking new hairdos for a new mid-1980s setting. Meanwhile, rumors of multiple Elevens for the incoming season have finally been debunked.
According to Movie Fone, the incoming season of ‘Stranger Things’ is currently in production and will be set in the mid-1980s. Filming will take place in Atlanta and the story will pick up after the events of season 1 in the year 1984.
The series’ lead hairstylist Sarah Hindsgaul teased that the show’s characters will be sporting new hairdos reminiscent of the era, specifically Natalia Dyer’s Nancy Wheeler.
Hindsgaul said, "This year it is very different — we start stepping more into the '80s, which is kind of amazing, visually. Last year was '83 and this year is '84, and they're still in Hawkins, Indiana — but people are starting to realize there are perms and mullets, so we're using a lot of wigs this year, because no one wants perms and mullets.”
She continued, “It's been a fun step. All of the characters have developed. Nancy has kind of a big hair turn this year, too — they decided to do something drastic... That's all I can tell you.”
Hindsgaul also addressed rumors saying that the series was looking for female extras to cast as multiple Elevens, a part famously played by young actress Millie Bobby Brown. According to Screen Crush, it was rumored that casting calls were made for anyone willing to shave their hair off for parts since the series may do a flashback of Eleven and other members of the top-secret government program she was involved in.
She clarified, "We all look at the rumors online — it's fun to see what people are writing. The big one so far for Season 2 was a Reddit post that said there was an ad for extras [willing to] shave their heads, but that got blown out of proportion.”
She continued, “We actually needed women who would be willing to cut their hair and get bangs, while all the male extras actually needed to grow their hair out. Some male extras have been growing out their hair for the past nine months. We find all our extras in Atlanta where we shoot. Last year it was really hard to get people to do anything, but this year a lot of people volunteered to have their hair cut off or to grow it out so we could give everyone the right haircuts."
‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2017. The science-fiction and horror web television series was created and executive produced by Matt and Ross Duffer.
