It might take some time for the fourth season to arrive. However, there are plenty of spoilers and speculations doing their rounds including the very real possibility that there might be a “Stranger Things” season 5.
The fourth season is yet to drop but there are already talks that it might not be the last season as originally planned. Apparently, even Netflix was a bit disappointed when the Duffer brothers hinted that the series will be ending with the fourth season.
“Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the brothers made four seasons sound like an official end, and I was suddenly getting phone calls from our actors' agents,” executive producer Shawn Levy said, according to Digital Spy.
Levy then teased that a “Stranger Things” season 5 might still be possible. “The truth is we're definitely going four seasons and there's very much the possibility of a fifth,” the EP said. “Beyond that, it becomes I think very unlikely.”
Meanwhile, actor David Harbour, who plays Hopper in the series, has some cryptic things to say about the “Stranger Things” character. One of the biggest questions that arose from the third season’s cliffhanger ending is whether or not Hopper survived.
“We don't have an open-ended thing like The Walking Dead,” Harbour said. “There is an end to all these characters.”
Of course, it does not necessarily mean that Hopper met his demise last season. “We're going to give you something fun and then we're going to get out before we've worn out our welcome,” the actor added. “We have a specific story that we're going to tell.”
Most fans would probably agree that Hopper still has a story to tell and that the character has not yet outlived his welcome. Interestingly, a lot of fan theories say that Hopper might still be alive.
Some fans believe that there are clues pointing to the possibility that Hopper is still alive and would likely be returning in “Stranger Things” season 4. One such theory says that the character might still be alive and in the possession of the Russian, according to Metro.
According to Reddit user CSEnzley, they won’t likely kill Hopper at the moment because he is still useful for them. “Hopper is a direct link to Eleven,” the Reddit user said. “Brenner knows this and will probably want Eleven back or have some other use for her which is more than enough reason to keep Hopper alive instead of feeding him to their Demogorgons.”
