BOSTON, Jan. 20, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Online media business Subscription Insider published a new report, “New FTC Native Advertising Guidelines: What Publishers & Marketers Need to Know.” The report summarizes guidelines the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued last month regarding advertising that closely resembles nearby editorial content.
Native ads are hybrids of content and promotional messaging used by publishers and marketers that present information in the form of an article, image, video or audio instead of a format easily recognized as advertising. The FTC issued its new guidelines as a supplement to its “Enforcement Policy Statement on Deceptively Formatted Advertisements,” which it also issued last month.
“Consumers are becoming increasing skeptical of advertisements and they are noticing where the lines are blurred. We created our report because it’s imperative that publishers and content marketers stay on top of the ever-changing landscape and the FTC guidelines,” said Subscription Insider CEO and publisher Kathy Greenler Sexton.
Subscription Insider’s new report summarizes the FTC documents, as well as recent news coverage of them. Its sections include:
- Do consumers recognize native advertising?
- An example of native advertising
- The FTC steps in
- Examples of when disclosures are needed
- Creating clear and prominent disclosures
- What people are saying
- Insider Take
