‘Suicide Squad’ may have a villain worse than Joker as teased in a newly released photograph. It was also suggested that the film may earn $125 million on its North American premiere on August.
According to The Week, a new photograph featuring a mystery character has recently emerged. This fueled speculations that a bigger, more evil villain will be gracing the big screen – even more threatening than Jared Leto’s Joker.
The photograph showed a creature that appeared to be giving off electrical sparks with cables attached to the back of his head. The villain’s right arm was outstretched but it is unclear whether he is holding a weapon of just plain attacking someone with his powers.
No other indication of the new villain’s identity has been revealed so far. The photograph’s release came with the debut of the film’s final trailer that featured new footage of its ensemble cast, specifically of Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Waller, a feared top-ranking government agent, is Task Force X’s “puppet master”.
It was suggested by Thrillist that Waller may actually turn out to be the film’s actual villain as teased in the new footage. In the trailer, Waller looks non-threatening enough in her purple suit as she calmly explains to Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg why she needs to assemble a group of incarcerated bad guys to go missions for the government. She says, “Everyone has a weakness. And a weakness can be leveraged.”
By the middle of the trailer, Will Smith’s Deadshot comments, “That is just a mean lady,” as he looks on at Waller who is returning her gun to a holster. In the final montage, Waller says, “Getting people to act against their own self-interest is what I do for a living.”
It is still possible that Waller is not the electricity generating mysterious antagonist from the newly released photograph, but she is proving to be more than what she seems.
Meanwhile, a box office tracking is predicting a $125 million North American premiere for David Ayer’s upcoming film adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, analysts are also confident that the numbers could be more than estimated. However, it is unclear if the new film could top Marvel’s ‘Deadpool’, which managed to gross $132.43 million on its opening weekend from February 12 to 14.
‘Suicide Squad’ is an upcoming superhero film written and directed by David Ayer. It is scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016 in the United States.
