‘Supergirl’ Casts Original Wonder Woman Actress Lynda Carter as President of the United States in Season 2

Lynda Carter joins the cast of The CW's 'Supergirl' for Season 2

‘Supergirl’ casts the original ‘Wonder Woman’ actress Lynda Carter as the President of the United States in season 2. She joins returning cast member Melissa Benoist, who plays the title role of Kara Danvers a.k.a. Supergirl.

According to Digital Trends, Warner Bros. and The CW announced Carter’s involvement in season two of ‘Supergirl’, which is moving from CBS to The CW. Carter joins two actors previously involved in the widespread DC franchise – Dean Cain of the 1990s television series ‘Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ and Helen Slater of 1984’s ‘Supergirl’ film. Cain and Slater currently play Kara Danvers’ adoptive parents in the series.

It was reported by Deadline that Carter had long been eyed for the role of the President of the United States but her involvement has only been confirmed recently. The 64-year old actress, singer, and beauty queen was the star of the iconic television series ‘Wonder Woman’ from 1975 to 1979.

Her portrayal of Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman was considered the only successful attempt to adapt the DC comic book heroine on screen. She also strongly influenced subsequent issues of the comics - specifically the spin transformation, which was used in ‘SuperFriends’ and ‘Justice League Unlimited’.

Carter continues to enjoy a busy career in entertainment. She recently starred in the London West End production of ‘Chicago’ and makes appearances in several television shows including ‘Law & Order’, ‘Two and a Half Men’, and ‘Smallville’. She also worked in full-feature films such as ‘Sky High’ and ‘The Dukes of Hazzard’.

‘Supergirl’ season 2 is scheduled to premiere on October 10, 2016 on The CW. Melissa Benoist is set to return in the title role. She’s joined by Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, Jenna Dewan Tatum as Lucy Lane, Peter Facinelli as Maxwell Lord, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw.

The action-adventure and drama series was developed and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, and Andrew Kreisberg. It is produced by Michael Grassi, Ted Sullivan, Michael Cedar, and Larry Teng.
