When “T-Mobile” announced that it would allow its users to stream video or music as much as they wanted to without using up data, a lot of people were skeptical if the Un-carrier could even do it. However, after adding 100 partners to the list of sites that it will be hosting with its service, it would seem that the “Binge On” feature of “T-Mobile” is a bonafide hit. Among the most recently added are “Apple Music,” “Disney Jr.,” and “Nat Geo TV.”
As Digital Trends points out, the popularity of “Binge On” relies on the “Free” aspect of the feature; with users able to stream videos and music from platforms like “YouTube” and “Netflix” as much as they want without it costing them in the data department. The only catch is that the videos are locked at 480p when using the feature, which many agree is a miniscule issue compared to the much larger benefit of “Free” streaming.
Seeing the huge uptake in users of the service, it’s perhaps not surprising that some of the biggest content creators online are jumping on the bandwagon. This quadrupled the number of companies that “T-Mobile” is now hosting with their service, thus giving customers more options with the content that they can stream.
According to Tech Times, users of the service have streamed a total of 765 hours of content using “Binge On.” With the no data charge feature, users will never be without their favorite programs as long as they are within range of the carrier’s signal.
"We cover everything and have something for everyone," T-Mobile CEO John Legere stated.
“Binge On” was launched eight months ago, with the earliest companies to be added to the hosting list including “YouTube” and “Netflix.” Users are reminded that they will still need to pay for any subscription fee required by the sites providing the content; only the data is free and only when actually using the feature.
