Customs agencies in Türkiye and Uzbekistan are to exchange digital information on vehicles and goods before they cross the border under a new protocol meant to speed processing and reduce waits.

The additional protocol was signed in Ankara on Thursday, Oct. 29. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony. Türkiye’s Trade Ministry identified Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov as the signatories.

Türkiye’s Trade Ministry said the arrangement is intended to streamline cross-border processes for exporters and international transport operators. It also aims to support faster bilateral and transit trade.

Uzbekistan’s presidency said the protocol amends the countries’ March 29, 2022, agreement on advance information exchange. Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications said the customs document was one of five agreements signed after the Ankara talks. EconoTimes previously reported on the wider package of agreements.
