Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus called for closer energy and transport coordination with Croatia and regional partners, saying it could strengthen east-west links and support energy security, Anadolu Agency reported.
Kurtulmus made the appeal at a joint news conference in Ankara on Thursday with Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandrokovic. He described Türkiye as a strategic partner of the Three Seas Initiative.
Croatia is among the initiative’s 13 European Union members, alongside several partners outside the bloc. Its regional scope spans the Baltic, Adriatic and Black seas, Anadolu Agency reported. Kurtulmus pointed to the Middle Corridor as a route for stronger east-west links and cited opportunities for bilateral cooperation in defense, energy, culture and tourism.
The call follows a separate appeal by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz for countries to broaden their energy sources and routes amid pressure from global energy costs, Anadolu Agency reported Monday. EconoTimes previously covered Yılmaz’s call to diversify energy sources and routes.
On the war in Ukraine, Kurtulmus said negotiations should resume soon and lead to a just settlement acceptable to both sides. He also said Türkiye supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the Balkans.
