A tanker anchored off Oman after a projectile hit it and started a fire, prompting a warning to vessels nearby, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

UKMTO said local authorities reported the strike at 9:45 p.m. ET Oct. 20 (01:45 UTC Oct. 21), about 11 nautical miles west of Bukha. The tanker was at anchor, and the fire was out by the time the warning was issued. All crew members were reported safe, and no environmental impact had been reported.

The strike came a day after a separate Oct. 19 incident involving a tanker and military forces off Oman, about 121 nautical miles east of Duqm. In its Oct. 20 advisory, UKMTO said that earlier interaction took place amid military activity in the region. The latest alert concerned a different location and a reported projectile strike.

Authorities were investigating the latest strike, UKMTO said. It urged nearby vessels to stay cautious and tell the agency about suspicious activity.
