United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an incident involving a tanker and military forces off Oman, issuing a security alert for ships operating in the region.

UKMTO said the incident took place Oct. 19 about 121 nautical miles east of Duqm, Oman. Its Oct. 20 advisory said the interaction occurred amid military activity in the region.

The advisory did not name the tanker or the forces involved, or specify the nature of their interaction. UKMTO urged nearby vessels to consult current maritime security information and monitor developments in the area.

UKMTO had also reported a separate Oct. 18 incident involving a tug near Khor Fakkan, United Arab Emirates. Two unidentified projectiles struck the tug, which was damaged but continued its voyage. One minor casualty was reported.

UKMTO said authorities were aware of the tanker report and that investigations were continuing.
