Approved by voters in a statewide referendum on November 4, 2014, The Smart Schools Bond Act (SSBA) authorized the use of $2 billion for classroom technology, school security, pre-k classes, and improvements to wireless broadband capabilities.
Research conducted by Filigree Consulting in 2016 showed that when teaching best practices are combined with frequent technology use, more students saw positive outcomes. Dramatic gains were realized in social and emotional skill development.
With an overall teacher and administrator satisfaction rating of 94.5%, Teq's PD services help thousands of educators leverage their classroom technologies. Teacher Laura Dusterwald said, “After our PD session with Teq, my fellow educations and I felt confident that we would be able to utilize our classroom technology to create innovative and interactive lesson plans and learning activities.”
Teq offers over 200 onsite and online PD courses, all of which are CTLE-approved in New York State. Popular courses for those who used their Smart Bond funds for devices include SMART Board Basics, Effective Chromebook Use in the Classroom, and Mobile Assessment with the iPad. Many have taken advantage of Teq Online PD, which provides PD on demand, from any Internet connected device. The online platform also includes Instructional Support nOw—a unique feature that connects the user to one of Teq’s NYS-Certified PD Specialists at the touch of a button.
In 2017 Teq plans on expanding its course offerings around 3D printing and game-based learning; adding new features to the Online platform; and continuing to deliver PD to schools nationwide.
