Tesla has issued another recall for its Cybertruck due to a rearview camera glitch. This recall, though, gives insight into the number of Cybertrucks manufactured since November 2023, with the company revealing 27,185 vehicles affected.
Tesla Cybertruck Faces Another Recall
This is just another minor software update fix, and Tesla is recalling the Cybertruck for it again. What it does show, though, is the total number of Cybertrucks manufactured by Tesla.
Tesla has been mum on the exact number of Cybertrucks it has manufactured and shipped for nearly a year.
Tesla’s Secretive Production Disclosures
When it comes to disclosing delivery per model, no manufacturer is as secretive as Tesla, which has officially disclosed its Q3 production and delivery data. It groups together the sales of the Model 3 and Model Y, followed by all other Tesla cars, including the Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Tesla Semi.
In the case of Cybertruck, though, a string of four recalls has allowed us to loosely monitor its delivery status.
Recall Reveals Cybertruck Numbers
Electrek reports that Tesla had delivered approximately 11,000 Cybertrucks as of the end of June, according to the most recent one.
As a result of an issue with the rearview camera, Tesla has issued a fresh recall for the Cybertruck:
"On certain affected vehicles, under certain conditions, the vehicle system (including the rearview image) may not complete a shutdown process before the system is commanded to boot-up. If the driver starts a backing event before the vehicle system completes its shut down and boot-up, the rearview image may not display within two seconds of placing the vehicle in reverse as required by FMVSS 111, S6.2.3."
An OTA software update is the solution.
Impact of the Recall on Tesla's Production
Hence, the "affected population" is the most intriguing aspect of the recall. All Cybertrucks manufactured up to about the middle of September seem to be affected:
"The subject population includes certain Model Year (MY) 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024, that are or were operating with a specific software logic for low voltage hardware."
As far as Tesla is concerned, 27,185 vehicles are impacted.
Once again, 11,000 Cybertrucks had been manufactured by Tesla by the month's end of June. The Cybertruck is one among 22,915 "other vehicles" that Tesla said it had delivered yesterday.
