Anticipated for a March 2025 release, Apple's iPhone SE 4 could feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen, the A18 chip, and enhanced AI capabilities. It aims to bring premium features to a budget-friendly device.
There have been rumors that the next iPhone SE 4 will look similar to the iPhone 14 and have a bigger 6.1-inch OLED screen. The display technology of the SE line is now on par with that of Apple's top handsets, which is a significant improvement over the existing model's 4.7-inch LCD screen.
iPhone SE 4 to Feature OLED Display Upgrade
As part of its larger aim to eliminate LCD displays from its entire iPhone lineup, Apple has decided to switch to OLED displays. Suppliers such as Sharp and Japan Display, who have supplied LCD panels for earlier SE models, will feel the effects of this change.
According to MacRumors, the A18 chip, which was introduced last month in the iPhone 16 series, is said to be the engine behind the performance of the iPhone SE 4. The physical Home button on the iPhone will likely be retired along with the device's transition from Touch ID to Face ID.
A18 Chip to Boost iPhone SE 4 Performance
Notable additions to the improvements are:
- USB-C port, replacing the Lightning connector.
- Action button, a feature introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro.
- Apple-designed 5G modem.
- 48MP rear camera, up from the current 12MP sensor.
- 8GB of RAM, double the current model's 4GB.
Notably, the iPhone SE 4 will be able to handle Apple Intelligence—the company's suite of artificial intelligence tools—thanks to the boost in RAM. These features are likely to be released with iOS 18.1 later this month. This would make the SE 4 the most cost-effective iPhone that can run these advanced AI features, which weren't available in last year's regular iPhone 15 versions.
Apple Intelligence Tools Coming to SE 4
Apple is likely to keep the iPhone SE as a budget-friendly choice, even with these major changes. Following in the footsteps of other models, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicts that the gadget will cost somewhere around $400 to $500.
Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo are among those who have speculated about a release in the spring of 2025. It is quite likely that the iPhone SE will be launched in March 2025, as all prior models were revealed in March. Reportedly, Apple's suppliers will start mass producing in October, paving the way for a release in early 2025.
