Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden urged residents who have not voted to verify where they can cast ballots, as Election Day rules differ by county and early voting ends Friday, Oct. 30.

Registered voters may cast early ballots at any early-voting location in their county of registration, VoteTexas.gov says. In-person early voting began Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30. Voters can check their county’s locations on the state’s voter information site.

Election Day options depend on whether a county participates in the Countywide Polling Place Program. Voters in counties outside the program must go to their assigned precinct; voters in participating counties may use any polling place within the county, according to VoteTexas.gov.

Howden urged voters to confirm their location before heading to the polls. “If you plan to vote on Election Day, now is the time to confirm your polling location,” he said in a statement released Oct. 27. VoteTexas.gov also provides registration and identification information. Mail voters can check their ballot’s status through the tracker or contact their county early-voting clerk, the secretary of state’s office said.

The state counted more than 4.2 million ballots from Oct. 19-24, about 22% of Texas’ 19 million registered voters, the secretary of state’s office reported. It characterized the figures as unofficial and said they could change as counties submit updates.

A separate report by The Texas Tribune put the total at nearly 4.5 million after the seventh day, Oct. 25, and said 23.4% of registered voters had participated in person or by mail. The reports cover different periods.

Early voting ends Oct. 30, with Election Day scheduled for Nov. 3.
