The Apocalypse Is Now Closer Than Ever, Doomsday Clock Is At 2 Minutes To Midnight

The Doomsday Clock maintained by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists is intended to be a symbol of how close humanity is to destroying itself or getting destroyed. For the second year in a row, the hands have been move 30 seconds closer to midnight. It is now at two minutes to the point where the end of the world occurs, and it’s because of the Trump administration and Climate Change.

Now, it’s worth noting that the scientists who are the administrators of the Doomsday Clock take several factors into consideration when moving the hands. Among the most recent factors that made the hands get closer to midnight are the recent developments in the U.S./North Korea situation, with the leaders of both nations seemingly goading each other to just launch their missiles, The Washington Post reports.

There was also the recent missile scare in Hawaii, which ended up being a mistake, but it doesn’t bode well that it happened at all. Scientists are quick to pick up on events and factors that might seem random to most people but can pose a significant problem when added all together. This is why the clock has once again been moved by 30 seconds.

Just to put this news into perspective, the Doomsday Clock has existed for 71 years and this is only the second time that the hands are this close to midnight. The last time this happened, the U.S. and the Soviet Union were performing tests of hydrogen bombs, Futurism reports.

Suffice it to say, the people over at the Bulletin are not impressed with how the Trump administration is handling the situation in North Korea. The group is also citing the current president’s failure to address the dangers of Climate Change, with President Trump’s numerous misguided decisions to roll back protection of the environment and investments in renewable energy.
