Every season of “The Crown” has been the talk of the town once it starts streaming on Netflix. However, the immense interest in the fourth season, which is expected to extend for “The Crown” season 5, is understandable. The historical drama has finally the years when the royal family welcomed Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin).
‘The Crown’ season 5 release date
Fans of the show will have to wait a little longer for “The Crown” season 5, though. Deadline previously reported that the filming for the upcoming episodes will not start anytime this year making a 2021 release date quite hectic.
“The Crown” season 5 is expected to start filming in June next year, which makes it possible for the new episodes to start streaming in late 2022. Seasons 1 to 4 episodes were released in either November or December, this could be a familiar pattern for the next season.
‘The Crown’ season 5 cast
Another reported consideration for the production timeline is the change of cast for “The Crown” season 5. The same report noted that this was also a factor in the two-year absence of the series when the cast portraying the royals was changed between seasons 2 and 3.
That also means fans should prepare to see the key figures be played by different actors in “The Crown” season 5. So far, it has been confirmed that Olivia Colman will bid her Queen Elizabeth II goodbye as “Harry Potter” star Imelda Staunton takes over. Jonathan Pryce from “Game of Thrones” and ”The Two Popes” will replace Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip. Helena Bonham Carter will also leave the series as Lesley Manville has been cast as Princess Margaret. Lastly, Elizabeth Debicki will be playing the role of Princess Diana.
‘The Crown’ season 5 plot
“The Crown” season 5 is expected to be a very heavy one in terms of its plot because, based on the covered years in season 4, the next episodes will reach some of the most trying years Princess Diana had as a member of the British royal family. Season 4 covered the events from 1977 to 1990. It can be recalled that Princess Diana and Prince Charles went through a highly publicized divorce in 1996. A year later, she died in a tragic vehicular accident in Paris.
