“The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 3 will continue with the storyline that addresses some age-old practices of families. In particular, the medical case involves a teenage patient called Mara (Camille Hyde). She is one of those girls who grew up in a family where female circumcision has been practiced for generations.

“The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 3 shows that this is not a good ritual even if some communities still believe that it is a must. Dr. Audrey Lim (Christina Chang) puts her career on the line by defying the girl’s parents’ orders just to help the girl get something back, something that should have been originally part of her life.

In the previous episode, Dr. Lim performed a reconstructive surgery on Mara to fix the damage on her genitalia. Apparently, she was “circumcised” when she was just a toddler and the doctor tried her best to restore the damaged nerves so she can get the sensation back, and this procedure was kept a secret to the girl’s parents, who object to the idea.

Although Mara told Dr. Lim at first that she would like to abide by her parents' wish of not undergoing the surgery, she was secretly happy when she learned that the doctor actually defied their wish and went on to perform the restorative procedure.

“The Good Doctor” season 2 made it clear that female circumcision, known as female genital mutilation (FGM) in medical terms, is harmful to an individual’s health. In fact, the World Health Organization and the United Nations condemn the act in real life as there are no benefits from it, only harm.

As per Episode Calendar, “The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 3 synopsis reads: “A young married couple must choose between saving the wife's life or their future ability to start a family; when Dr. Lim must take care of some personal business, she asks Dr. Murphy and Dr. Reznick to oversee the emergency room.”

“The Good Doctor” season 2 episode 3 will air on Oct. 8. Watch the preview below:
