‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action Film Updates: Chloe Grace Moretz Drops Lead Role, Puts Other Future Projects on Hold

Chloe Grace Moretz was attached to play the lead in 'The Little Mermaid' Live-Action Adaptation

‘The Little Mermaid’ lead actress Chloe Grace Moretz is no longer attached to the planned project. She also admitted that was putting other films on hold but clarified that she wasn’t exactly taking the “time off”.

According to the A.V. Club, Moretz dropped out of the lead role of the planned live-action adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s fairytale ‘The Little Mermaid’. The 19-year old American actress and model was attached to the project since late 2015. Richard Curtis, who penned the screenplay for ‘Love Actually’ and ‘Four Funerals and a Wedding’, was also attached to prepare the script.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Moretz explained, “So I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again… I’m realizing that I can slow down.” She is reportedly planning to produce projects and is currently working on two television shows.

Moretz’ most notable big-screen acting credits include ‘(500) Days of Summer’, ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’, the ‘Kick-Ass’ series, ‘Hugo’, ‘Dark Shadows’, ‘Carrie’, and ‘If I Stay’. She also voiced Darby in the television series ‘My Friends Tigger & Pooh’ and appeared on ’30 Rock’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, and ‘Dirty Sexy Money’.

During another interview with E! News, Moretz clarified that she wasn’t exactly taking time off her acting projects. She said, "It's not particularly time off… I'm just becoming more picky and particular about what roles I'm choosing. I think as an actor you have a huge opportunity to find yourself through the roles that you choose. I think it's my time, right now in my life, to figure out who I am and what I am and what I want and what this industry means."

She continued, "We have all these amazing streaming services and everything that's coming into our faces, and we're all just taking baby steps… Why not sit back, slow down, realize I'm 19 and go, 'Hey, let's make stuff that really, really hits hard with who I am and helps me figure out what it means to be a 19-year-old actor who is just doing her thing.'"

‘The Little Mermaid’ is a planned fantasy film based on the fairytale created by Hans Christian Andersen. It tells the story of a young mermaid who gives up her undersea life after falling in love with a human.
