“The Originals” season 6 is not happening and this is bad news for avid viewers of the series. Now that season 5 has concluded, it was confirmed that it was the end and no sixth season is coming to continue the story of the Mikaelson family.
The CW did not renew the show for “The Originals” season 6 so the fifth installment served as the finale. Somehow, the news was not surprising because showrunner Julie Plec already mentioned before that the drama will end after five seasons.
In a chat with TV Line, she said: “Ending a show is always bittersweet, but for me, it’s a true blessing to be a part of making that choice.”
She added that there could be spin-offs in the future as the show can continue with many story angles. “I think there are future shows down the line that can be spawned out of this world and could tell good stories. It’s a hope for the future if nothing else.”
The showrunner also formally announced the end of the drama through a letter she posted on Twitter. She said that she published the note so everyone can properly say goodbye to “The Originals.”
Now, when it was declared that “The Originals” season 6 is not happening, a fan started a petition to bring back the show. It was authored by someone named Ahmed Martinez and many viewers supported the call. However, the appeal proved to be futile and not enough to call the attention of the producers.
In the petition, Martinez wrote, “‘The Originals’ has been with us for the previous 4 seasons. It's had good viewings, rates and good outcome. Let's save the Originals!”
“The Originals” first aired on Oct. 3, 2013. It tells the story of the Mikaelsons, the world's very first family of vampires that settled in the New Orleans. The show was originally produced as “The Vampire Diaries” spin-off.
