‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 10, titled “Nostalgia’s A Bitch,” is set to follow Caroline and Bonnie as they explore Damon’s memories to save him from Sybil’s new revenge plot.
The synopsis for “Nostalgia’s A Bitch” posted on TV Guide reads as follows, Sybil (guest star Nathalie Kelley) enacts revenge on Damon (Ian Somerhalder) by putting him in a catatonic state. Caroline (Candice King) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) enter Damon's mind and run into familiar faces from the past, only to discover Stefan (Paul Wesley) is the key to Damon's fate. Meanwhile, Sybil and her sister, Seline (guest star Kristen Gutoskie), jockey for control of the bell.”
The upcoming episode will follow Caroline and Bonnie as they take a trip back in time by means of Damon’s memories in order to save him. The vengeful siren Sybil has placed Damon in a catatonic state.
In the previous episode, Sybil lured Damon back to Mystic Falls since he was in possession of the bell striker. However, Sybil underestimated the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant’s powerful effect on Damon. Damon eventually retaliated realizing that he could deny Sybil the striker.
Appropriately enough, the episode title references the return of Marguerite MacIntyre’s Sheriff Elizabeth “Liz” Forbes and Michael Trevino’s Tyler Lockwood as Caroline and Bonnie explore familiar territory. Sheriff Forbes was Caroline’s mother, Mystic Falls’ sheriff and a member of the Founder’s Council.
The series’ major recurring character initially struggled with Caroline’s new identity as a vampire but eventually learned to accept her daughter’s fate before succumbing to cancer in season 6, according to TV Line. Sheriff Forbes was introduced in season 1’s episode 4, titled “Family Ties,” and was last seen in season 6’s episode 9 in a flashback as well as season 8’s episode 3 as an alternative memory.
Meanwhile, Tyler was also a former core character in the television series. He was a werewolf that transformed into a successful hybrid of Niklaus’ bloodline. He was also the Lockwood family’s last member before he was ultimately killed off by Damon in the earlier part of season 8.
Promotional stills for the upcoming episode posted on Comic Book Movie shows Sheriff Forbes pointing a gun to Caroline’s back and Tyler talking to a mysterious figure in what looks to be a candlelit catacomb.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 10, titled “Nostalgia’s A Bitch,” is expected to air on The CW on January 27, 2017. Kellie Cyrus directed the episode written by Brett Matthews. It will be followed by episode 11, titled "You Made a Choice to be Good," scheduled for February 3.
