‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 9, titled “The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch," will follow Sybil as she taunts Damon with memories of his lost love, Elena. Meanwhile, Damon seeks help from Caroline for his brother’s murderous rampage.
The synopsis for “The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch" posted on TV Muse reads, “Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) return to Mystic Falls at Sybil's (Nathalie Kelley) request as she is still in search of the historical artifact.
Bonnie (Kat Graham) returns from Paris wearing a vile of Enzo's (Michael Malarkey) blood making Caroline (Candice King), wonder if she will become a vampire. Stefan, Damon, Caroline, Bonnie and Enzo all attend the Miss Mystic Falls pageant where Sybil continues to taunt Damon with memories of Elena (Nina Dobrev).”
The promo shows the two brothers returning to the small town of Mystic Falls and eventually reuniting for the siren Sybil. In one of the promo’s final scenes, Damon is caught by surprise when he sees his former love Elena in front of him. However, this vision quickly vanishes when Sybil harshly tells him, “You need to get a grip.” This pushes Damon on the edge and he slams Sybil’s face on the mirror.
Meanwhile, Stefan continues his guilt-free murderous rampage, considering he has his humanity switched off in order to deliver more souls to Cade (Wole Parks) in the least amount of time. He joined his brother in serving the devil and looks like there’s no stopping the two from creating more destruction at home.
According to Comicbook Movie, Damon desperately turns to Caroline for help in controlling his younger brother but things turn sour when Stefan allies with Sybil in retaliation. The siren then begins taunting Damon with memories of Elena.
In another storyline, Bonnie & Enzo return and will face a major decision about their future.
‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8’s episode 9, titled “The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch," is scheduled to air on The CW on January 20, 2017. It was directed by Geoff Shotz and written by Neil Reynolds and Penny Cox. It will be followed by episode 10, titled "Nostalgia's a Bitch,” scheduled for January 27.
