Fans of “The Walking Dead” may be getting a much deeper conflict than expected compared to the potential row between Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus). The San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) trailer for “The Walking Dead” season 9 highlights the potential internal conflict amongst those who live in the Sanctuary, with particular focus on a possible conflict between Dixon and Grimes.
But fans will remember that Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan), an original season 2 survivor that has been through to hell and back with the oldest of the cast, had a disagreement with Grimes over how to handle the fate of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Negan had killed Maggie's husband, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), and was spared by Grimes when the Saviors were finally defeated and the Sanctuary was taken over by Grimes and his crew.
Grimes sparing Negan's life did not sit well with Maggie due to the brutal way that her husband was killed by the psychopathic former leader of the Sanctuary. This may become the catalyst for Maggie to create her own power block amongst those who live in the new Sanctuary in season 9. The SDCC trailer does show a short moment of Maggie Rhee arguing with Grimes and Michonne (Danai Gurira) and working with Daryl Dixon. Maggie may turn out to be a more significant power-player for survivors of the Hilltop and the Sanctuary in “The Walking Dead” season 9.
Considering that Andrew Lincoln has already confirmed that season 9 will be his last season with the show, fans can look forward to unraveling if Maggie Rhee and her camp will become the show's new protagonists or if the upcoming installment can still find a way to resolve Rick Grime's departure without having to resort to the community destroying itself from within.
Fans looking forward to “The Walking Dead” season 9 have a little over a month away before the show airs its premiere episode on Oct. 7.
