“The Winds of Winter” is coming up, and this time, it is for certain. This is because George RR Martin said that he will focus on the sixth book in the “A Song of Fire and Ice” series since he knows fans have been waiting for it for years.
“The Winds of Winter” is definitely long long-awaited as it has been delayed for eight years already. But while Martin is not mentioning any exact date, he hinted that “TWOW” would be on the shelves of bookstores in the third quarter of 2020.
The promise Martin made this year
Since he knows that some fans may not believe him anymore when he mentions the release of “The Winds of Winter,” this time, he made a promise that will make them believe him one more time. He said back in May that his fans can put him in a secluded place so he can dedicate his time to finishing the book.
“If I don’t have ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for the Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” Martin wrote in his personal blog site.
But then again, it should be noted that Martin did not say a specific date this time but rather a time frame when fans can expect “The Winds of Winter.” He also emphasized that he will focus on it so it can be released already, and fans will not be disappointed in him anymore.
Fans are worried again for another delay for this reason
Despite Martin’s promise, the fear that “The Winds of Winter” will not be released came back when it was reported that there will be a “Game of Thrones” spinoff titled “House of the Dragon.”
Based on the information provided, the famous author will also be the drama’s executive producer, so he will have more roles to play in the upcoming HBO series.
With that said, it is clear that his time and attention will be divided once again, and consequently, “The Winds of Winter” may take a back seat for the nth time. However, fans should stop worrying because George RR Martin just said that even if he has new projects on board, “TWOW” will be his top priority.
Insider reported that Martin confirmed that he will publish “The Winds of Winter” first before he starts anything else. "I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered 'The Winds of Winter,'" the author was quoted as saying. "Winter is still coming, and WINDS remains my priority.”
