Writers for U.S. TV shows that had its mid-season finale in late 2018 strived to give their viewers breathtaking cliffhangers. And NBC’s hit family drama is up in the list of the good ones for sure. Will the show pick up on that major plot twist left in 2018 once it returns with “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10?
The show once again managed to beat the viewers’ expectation by dropping one of its biggest truth bombs since the first season. Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) brother, Nick (Michael Angarano), turned out to be alive and has been living in the same state where the Big 3 grew up. Does this mean they will finally meet their uncle as soon as “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10?
In the episode before “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10, Kevin (Justin Hartley) learned there is a huge chance Nick is alive. Before the mid-season finale concluded, viewers got the confirmation that he did not die in Vietnam and has a shabby home in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
However, the producers decided to keep a little bit more mystery in Nick’s identity. Coming into “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10, the viewers only saw his silhouette. And co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker refused to tell THR if Angarano will also play the role with help from prosthetics and makeup to make him look grown-up and older.

After several trips to Vietnam, Kevin will definitely follow up on this new information only this time he can be much closer to home. While the obvious assumption is that he would want to share this information with the rest, the showrunners suggest a different path that “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10 will likely tackle.
Before the show premieres in 2019 with “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10, co-showrunner Elizabeth Berger teased, “That is going to be something that we're actually going to want him to grapple with. ... He knows that when he tells them everyone is going to have a strong point of view on it, so it's definitely something that he's going to have to think long and hard about. But it's hard to imagine that the others won't find out eventually.”
Meanwhile, it is still uncertain whether this big reunion is happening in “This Is Us” season 3 episode 10. But Aptaker confirmed it will certainly take place “relatively soon.” The series returns on Tuesday, Jan. 15 on NBC.
