Many people in the world have trouble sleeping one way or another, and sometimes the food that is eaten can contribute to that. But, a new report reveals a kind of diet people can follow to be able to sleep better.
Express reports that a diet that is high in fat but low in carbohydrates can help a person get a good night’s sleep. Too little sleep can be bad for a person’s health in the long run, so it’s important to be able to get the 7-8 hours of sleeping time to be healthy. Diet also plays a part in how well a person is able to sleep, and some studies have shown that while eating a high-carb diet may help a person to sleep, it will not be as good. Another study suggests that lowering carbs and eating high-fat meals at dinner will help.
Other studies have backed up the associations with the diet and quality of sleep, suggesting that a high-carb and low-fat diet greatly lowered a person’s quality of sleep compared to a low-carb high-fat diet with the same calorie count.
A low-carb, high-fat diet is mainly made up of nuts, cheese such as cottage cheese, meat, fish, dairies such as butter and eggs, fruits like avocadoes, oils, and seeds. Nuts, in particular, contain melatonin, which is a hormone in the body that helps regulate the sleep cycle. This hormone increases the blood levels in the body, resulting in better sleep. The rest of the foods mentioned that have lean protein contain the amino acid called tryptophan, which can increase the levels of serotonin in the brain, resulting in a good night’s sleep as well.
Other eating habits that can promote a good night’s sleep according to Sleep.org is to also reduce sugar or added sugars intake in the food you eat at dinner. Taking B vitamin supplements can also add to the regulation of melatonin in the body and thus helping you get a better night’s sleep. Following this kind of diet will also lead to overall weight loss, and losing weight also means better sleep.
