‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is set to feature the return of Anthony Hopkins as Odin, the King of Asgard and father to Thor. A new photograph from the filming set in Australia showed Hopkins looking like a bum and out of his regal armor.
According to /Film, a new behind-the-scenes photograph has recently been released teasing the return of Anthony Hopkins’ Odin for the third installment in the standalone fantasy series. The 78-year old Welsh actor was photographed in less than regal garb and looking quite the hobo as he was making faces for the photographer Glenn Hunt’s camera.
Hopkins’ Odin was last seen offering Chris Hemsworth’s Thor the Asgardian throne at the end of 2013’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’. However, his son decides that he would pass on the opportunity to live his life and leaves the throne room. Soon afterwards, Odin is seen transforming into Loki with viewers begging the question of the real Odin’s whereabouts.
Odin was first introduced in 2011’s ‘Thor’ as the King of Asgard and Protector of the Nine Realms. He is Thor’s father and Loki’s adoptive father. He was once the greatest warrior who ever lived and was worshipped as a god of wisdom by Earthlings.
When Odin’s wife Frida was killed by Malekith, his grief consumed him as he vowed to take revenge on the Dark Elves while putting him at odds with his son. This eventually gave Loki the chance to usurp Odin’s throne and took his adoptive father’s identity as his own.
Production for ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is well underway in Brisbane, Australia. The locale doubles as New York City. According to Cinema Blend, the new photograph suggested that Odin may have been transported to Earth and may have forgotten that he is the King of Asgard. Stripped of his kingly armor, Odin is looking quite disheveled on the streets of the city.
It was previously revealed that a new villain will be threatening the kingdom and Asgard and that Thor and Loki have to work together to battle the threat. According to Collider, details on the new film’s plot remain scarce but Cate Blanchett will be portraying the latest mysterious antagonist Hela.
In addition to Hopkins, Chris Hemsworth returns to reprise his role as the titular god of thunder together with co-stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Idris Elba as Heimdall. Jeff Goldblum joins the new cast as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge.
‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by Taika Waititi and written by Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle, Eric Pearson, and Christopher Yost. It is produced by Kevin Feige with Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Thomas M. Hammel, Stan Lee, and Brad Winderbaum executive producing.
It is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on November 3, 2017.
