As Nigeria’s 2027 national elections approach, a pro-Tinubu movement opened a chapter in Ekiti State and presented 25 vehicles for local voter outreach, the state government said.
The Oct. 29 launch took place at Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti. The Ekiti State Government says the organization aims to build support through direct contact with voters in communities nationwide and that the vehicles will support grassroots mobilization.
Ekiti State Gov. Biodun Oyebanji urged party stakeholders to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. “I challenge all of us here to support the President with our votes in January,” he said, according to the state government.
Oyebanji linked his administration’s development work in Ekiti to support from Tinubu’s federal government. Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, is the movement’s convener, the state government said. Tompolo was represented at the event by High Chief Kestin Pondi, managing director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited. Speaking for Tompolo, Pondi credited Tinubu’s economic reforms with improving state governments’ ability to pay salaries and pensions and carry out projects, Punch reported.
Accounts differed on the measure for Oyebanji’s 80% support goal. The state government described it as support from at least 80% of registered voters, while Punch reported a target of at least 80% of votes. Vanguard said Oyebanji referred to total votes cast or total PVCs collected, meaning Permanent Voter Cards.
The Ekiti chapter followed events in Ondo and Gombe on Oct. 20. Premium Times, Punch and Vanguard reported that the movement presented 52 vehicles across the two states and inaugurated local government coordinators in both, as well as ward coordinators in Ondo. EconoTimes previously covered the movement’s earlier vehicle presentations.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) schedules Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections for Jan. 16, 2027.
