Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary and President To Lam began a four-day official visit to Japan on Sunday, with talks and events focused on security and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Vietnam’s government said Lam departed Hanoi on Nov. 8 and is scheduled to remain in Japan through Nov. 11. His itinerary includes meetings with the Emperor and Empress of Japan, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and leaders of both chambers of parliament, the House of Councillors and the House of Representatives.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry framed the trip as a chance to advance the countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World. It cited security and economic security among the areas for cooperation.
The Vietnamese government said Lam is also scheduled to address the National Diet, Japan’s parliament, and meet business leaders. The program includes a public-private forum on economic and science and technology cooperation.
