‘Trainspotting 2’ recently revealed its first official teaser trailer featuring the return of the original principal cast members. New photographs from on-set in Edinburgh showed Ewan McGregor and Ewen Bremmer filming a scene together.
According to the Guardian, the first ever official teaser for Danny Boyle’s highly anticipated follow-up to ‘Trainspotting’ featured the first look at returning cast members. The short clip merely showed the iconic characters on a railway platform as a train zipped. It offered the first clip at the now-adult Skag Boys and didn’t give away anything from the new plot.
Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Mark “Rent Boy” Renton, the first film’s main character and antihero of the original novel authored by Scottish writer Irvine Welsh.
Rent Boy was first introduced in Boyle’s original black comedy released in 1996. He was a heroin addict with a dark sense of humor who, oftentimes, served as the more rational-minded member of his equally downtrodden group of friends. McGregor was named Best Actor by the London Film Critics Circle for his performance on the film.
Robert Carlyle will return as Francis “Franco” Begbie, a violent man with a short fuse. He is fond of terrorizing people as well as his friends but seems to stay loyal to them. Although he looks down on their use of heroin, he is an alcoholic and abuses amphetamines.
Johnny Lee Miller also returns as Simon “Sick Boy” Williamson. Sick Boy is Rent Boy’s oldest friend and companion. Despite his charming façade, he is a con artist and pimps women addicted to heroin. He is also quite narcissistic and considers himself more superior than others.
Finally, Ewen Bremner is set to reprise his role as Daniel “Spud” Murph. Spud is notably the most loyal and most kind-hearted of the group. Although his friends make him the butt of jokes because of his naivety, they are also fiercely protective of him. He suffers from bouts of kleptomania and is also a heroin junkie.
Boyle’s new film will be based on Welsh’s sequel ‘Porno’, according to the Independent. In the book published in 2002, the boys reunite to take on a pornography business. Rent Boy is a successful nightclub owner in Amsterdam, Begbie is newly released from prison and is seeking the gang, Spud contemplates suicide after a failed relationship, and Sick Boy remains a heavy drug user who decides to make a pornographic film.
The first photographs released from the filming set around Edinburgh, Scotland showed McGregor and Bremner filming a new scene together. It seemed reminiscent of the opening scene from Boyle’s original film.
‘Trainspotting 2’, otherwise entitled ‘T2: Trainspotting’, is the follow-up to the 1996 black comedy film of the same name scheduled to be released on February 10, 2017 in the United States. It is directed and produced by Danny Boyle and is written for the big screen by John Hodges. It is also produced by Bernard Bellew, Christian Colson, and Andrew Macdonald.
Its predecessor met universal acclaim from critics and earned $71.56 million worldwide against a production budget of $3.1 million.
