Less than two weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, President Donald Trump left open further U.S. military action against Iran, while Thursday's remarks gave no date for possible strikes.

Anadolu Agency reported that Trump spoke to White House reporters Thursday before a campaign rally in Iowa. He said U.S. forces had already inflicted significant damage on Iran and added, “We may do it a little bit further.” He said Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon and criticized previous presidents for not acting sooner. Trump described public reaction as mixed.

His Thursday remarks gave no date for further strikes. Anadolu Agency reported that on Wednesday Trump said “something one way or the other” would happen “fairly soon,” without specifying the action.

Trump wrote on Truth Social on Oct. 8 that the United States would not attack Iran before the midterms. In a separate report Wednesday, The New York Times said U.S. and Israeli military officials had prepared possible strike scenarios for after the Nov. 3 vote. The newspaper said Trump’s approval remained uncertain.
