Turkish jobless rate rises year-on-year in September

Turkish jobless rate rose in the month of September. The unemployment rate rose 0.8 percentage points to 11.4 percent year-on-year, showed Turkish Statistical Institue. In the same period, non-agricultural jobless rate rose 0.7 percentage points to 13.5 percent. While youth jobless rate including persons aged 15-24 was 21.6 percent with 1.6 percentage point rise, the jobless rate for persons aged 15-64 occurred as 11.7 percent with 0.9 percentage point rise. The employment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 47.8 percent.

The distribution of employment by sector showed that 19.2 percent was employed in agriculture, 19.6 percent was employed in industry, 6.9 percent was employed in construction and 54.3 percent was employed in services. Employment in agriculture fell 1.1 percentage point and construction fell 0.8 percentage point while industry rose 0.8 percentage point. Employment in services were up 1.2 percentage point.

The number of persons in the labor force realized 32 million 813 thousand persons with 598 thousand persons rise in the period of September. Labor force participation rate rose 0.4 percentage point to 54 percent.
