Investors face a busy week, with the congressional election and September JOLTS report on Tuesday, Nov. 3, followed by the October Employment Situation report on Friday, Nov. 6, alongside earnings from Palantir and AMD.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) lists Nov. 3 as the general election date. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has scheduled September’s Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) for 10 a.m. ET that day, followed by its October Employment Situation report on Nov. 6 at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The BLS reported that nonfarm employment rose by 29,000 in September, while unemployment was 4.2%. On Oct. 28, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) held its target federal funds rate range at 3.75% to 4%. The committee said inflation remained elevated and employment gains broadly matched growth in the labor force. Separately, the Bureau of Economic Analysis reported that real gross domestic product grew at a 3.4% annual rate in the third quarter, after 2.2% in the second quarter.
The Economic Times reported that December-delivery Brent crude settled at $117.64 a barrel on Oct. 30, up 13.6% in October, while West Texas Intermediate crude settled at $104.12, up 15.2%. The outlet linked the gains to concern about possible further U.S. strikes on Iran and risks to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier EconoTimes coverage cited preliminary Kpler figures showing Middle East oil flows above prewar levels in the week through Oct. 18.
Palantir plans to release third-quarter results after Monday’s market close, with a webcast at 5 p.m. ET. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) plans to report fiscal third-quarter results after Tuesday’s close, followed by a conference call at 5 p.m. ET. The October employment report is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6.
