The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero granted development consent to Frodsham Solar’s application for an array above 50 megawatts and energy storage after a six-month examination.
The proposed solar photovoltaic array includes modules and mounting structures, inverters, transformers, switchgear and control equipment. Plans also cover a substation, underground cables both on and off the site, and associated energy storage.
Frodsham Solar Ltd submitted its application on May 30, 2025. The Planning Inspectorate accepted it for examination on June 27, 2025.
During the six-month examination, local residents, the local authority, statutory consultees and other interested parties had an opportunity to provide evidence to the Examining Authority. The authority considered local views and the evidence gathered before sending its recommendation to the Energy Secretary on July 29, 2026. Baroness Curran made the decision on behalf of the Energy Secretary.
The Planning Inspectorate said the case was the 116th energy application among 184 applications it had examined to date. It also said the examination was completed within the statutory timetable set by the Planning Act 2008.
The National Infrastructure Planning website’s project pages host the decision, the Examining Authority’s recommendation and the evidence considered during the examination. The Planning Inspectorate said local communities continue to have opportunities to participate in examinations of projects that may affect them.
