Anadolu Agency reported a tanker strike involving an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, where the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated average oil flows at 21.2 million barrels per day in 2025.

Anadolu Agency attributed its report to a UK maritime agency. EIA's estimate, calculated from quarterly figures, included crude oil, condensate and petroleum products. During the first half of 2025, Asian markets were the destination for 89% of crude oil and condensate transported via Hormuz, EIA figures show.

EIA said existing pipelines could not reroute the full volume if shipping through the strait stopped. Its next Short-Term Energy Outlook is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a tanker reported being hit northeast of Limah, Oman, on Oct. 22 and continued toward its next port. EconoTimes covered that earlier incident.
