The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published a new set of experimental indicators for the U.K. on Nov. 5, offering a frequent view of activity across energy, work, transport and household markets.

The indicators appear in an ONS dashboard on economic activity and social change, bringing together data that update at different intervals. The agency says the series combines quickly collected survey results with newer datasets and methods still being tested. The datasets listed on the release page are classified as official statistics in development.

Fuel data estimate automotive demand per average transaction each week, using ONS calculations and information from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Separate daily series track gas prices traded on Great Britain’s On-the-Day Commodity Market and the electricity System Price; both include rolling seven-day averages. National Gas Transmission and Elexon are listed as their respective sources.

Housing-market data from Rightmove cover Great Britain and are published weekly and monthly. Monthly vehicle data count new registrations and production in the U.K., with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders named as the source. The release also lists weekly counts of domestic Energy Performance Building Certificates for England and Wales, supplied by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Employment and business measures include weekly figures on potential redundancies and the number of employers proposing them, based on Insolvency Service HR1 forms. A separate Xero dataset tracks monthly changes in small-business sales and jobs, though it is updated quarterly. The ONS also includes weekly and monthly indices of Revolut debit-card spending.

Transport and retail indicators cover weekly ship visits to and from selected U.K. ports, daily flight numbers for journeys to, from and within the country, and retail footfall by location category and region. The listed sources are exactEarth, EUROCONTROL and BT Active Intelligence, respectively.

The ONS scheduled its next release for Nov. 12.
