United States ISM non-manufacturing rose 1.3 pts to 57.8 in April, its highest for the year so far, contrasting with the ISM factory index's close to stalled readings in March and April (lowest in nearly 2 years).
April employment edged up from 56.6 to 56.7 its highest since October, suggesting that soft payrolls growth of 126k in March may not have been the beginning of a weaker trend in jobs growth.
Meanwhile the PMI services (Markit) was revised down from 57.8 to 57.4 in April, extending its first fall for this year.
