US Election Series: Cracks within Republican Party widen

After most of his prominent Republican colleagues including House Speaker Paul Ryan delivered a rebuke to this year’s Presidential nominee Donald Trump with regard to his recent feud with the parents of Muslim-American U.S. Army captain, who was killed in the Iraq war, Mr. Trump is seeking revenge politics. The parents at the Democratic convention delivered a sharp rebuke to Trump on the final day over his proposed ban on Muslims entering the United States saying that Mr. Trump has sacrificed nothing. They suggested that Mr. Trump is ignorant of U.S. constitution. Khizr Khan, the father of the fallen soldier said, "Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America…….You will see all faiths, genders and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing and no one."

Mr. Trump hit back suggesting that the speech probably was written by the scriptwriters of Hillary Clinton and the mother was standing there silently probably because he wasn’t allowed to speak (indicating at the hardline islamic ideology). His counter attack on the family drew widespread criticism from both Democrats and Republicans and has triggered a major controversy.

Mr. Trump becoming fed up with the party establishment for their relentless rebukes chose not to endorse house speaker Paul Ryan and Senator John McCain, who are facing reelection soon. Mr. Trump spoke exact same words that of Paul Ryan that he is not yet there to endorse him and with regard to Senator McCain, he said that he has never been there. The Democrats have been trying to gain from the cracks. President Barrack Obama urged the Republicans to reconsider Mr. Trump’s candidacy and called on the established Republicans to withdraw their endorsements.
