Given the fact that Democrats always tend to take actions against the Trump administration and delay or oppose the nominees whenever possible, President Trump’s nomination for the FBI director, Christopher Wray got approved by the Senate with an overwhelming majority. After being approved by the Senate Judiciary committee unanimously, the director received 95 votes in his favor while only 2 were against with three abstentions. He will be replacing the acting director Andrew McCabe, who filled in for the former FBI director James Comey, who was fired by President Trump in May this year.
While Mr. Wray doesn’t have any experience at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, he previously served under the administration of former Republican President George W. Bush in the department of Justice.
It is likely that Mr. Wray’s comments that the special counsel Robert Mueller who is investigating allegations that Trump campaign colluded with Russia during 2016 election is not on a ‘Which Hunt’ as described by President Trump got him the supports of Democrats. During his hearing, he has also spoken against torturing techniques including ‘Water-boarding’ that was promoted by Trump as a technique to use against terrorists. Mr. Wray called such techniques as illegal and ineffective. He also asserted his independence during the hearing. Asserting his independence at his confirmation hearing, Wray said: “My loyalty is to the Constitution and the rule of law. Those have been my guideposts throughout my career, and I will continue to adhere to them no matter the test.”
