According to the office of the Vice President, Mike Pence has once again delayed his crucial Middle East trip where he was supposed to visit Israel and Egypt to shore up support for President Donald Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as Israel capital earlier this year. His office announced the delay on Monday.
Pence was originally scheduled to depart over the last weekend, but the trip was delayed until this week so that he could preside over the upcoming Senate vote on tax code changes. Due to the thin majority of the Republicans in the Senate, Mike Pence might need to vote for the tax cuts and reform proposals if there is a deadlock. His office said in a statement, “The largest tax cut in American history is a landmark accomplishment for President Trump and a relief to millions of hardworking Americans…..The Vice President is committed to seeing the tax cut through to the finish line. The Vice President looks forward to traveling to Egypt and Israel in January.”
With pence Middle East trip delayed until January, Mike Pence could become the official envoy of President Trump bringing the sweeteners for President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). President Trump is expected to unveil a new peace proposal early next year.
