Mint reported Friday that Uber plans to extend Uber Black beyond a recent launch in Pune to additional Indian metros, putting the ride-hailing service in a premium segment where other companies have also introduced higher-end options. The outlet said Uber had not named the next destinations or specific launch dates.
Aditya Kapoor, director of supply operations for Uber India and South Asia, told Mint the company had recently launched Black in Pune and was considering more city rollouts. He said Uber wanted to reach all metros “very soon,” but could not provide a confirmed city list. Kapoor did not set specific dates for the next launches.
Mint also listed Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru among cities served, while describing Black as operating in three cities despite its separate report of the Pune launch. Uber announced the service’s return in Mumbai on Sept. 11, 2024. The company said Uber Black offers upscale vehicles, drivers prepared by fleet partners and rider settings such as quiet mode and temperature control.
Mahindra Logistics launched Alyte, a premium ride service, in Delhi NCR on Aug. 11, 2025. Its announcement named Noida International Airport, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad among planned expansion markets, with other metro areas also in view.
Vingroup said Green SM launched Green SM Limo in New Delhi on June 5, 2026. The initial rollout covers parts of the Delhi National Capital Region and uses VinFast Limo Green, a seven-seat fully electric SUV.
A September 2026 TechCrunch interview with Carrum Mobility founder Karan Jain offered a view of Uber Black’s operating structure. Jain told TechCrunch that fleet partners handle vehicles and drivers in India, giving Uber closer oversight while it maintains service standards.
The companies’ announcements describe different features and expansion plans, but provide no market-share figures. Mint reported that Uber did not disclose Uber Black’s ride volume.
