The original virtual reality headset by “Zeiss” called the “VR One” was meant to compete with the “Samsung VR” gear back in 2014. By all accounts, the device performed competently, but interest in VR did not reach the same height then as it does now. With the market set to yield $895 million for 2016, it seems the right time to release the next generation “VR One Plus.”
“Zeiss” made their presentation at E3, emphasizing the universal nature of the VR device to accommodate any smart gadget for as long as it had a 4.7 to 5.5-in screen size. As Android Community points out, the headset still features many of the aspects of the appearance of the original “VR One.” The only real difference is the universal smartphone tray which is what will accommodate the smartphone that will be inserted.
The other improvements address preference and comfort issues, like the removable head strap and the foam inserts. Technology-wise, the “VR One Plus” features several improvements to make it suitable to the current needs of the market. The Star covered the issue and the article includes a statement from the Zeiss senior product manager Franz Troppenhagan regarding their new headset.
"The VR landscape has changed significantly since we launched the VR One in 2014," he said. "The new VR One Plus VR headset addresses feedback we received from thousands of VR One users. It also meets the demands of an evolving VR industry and new platforms for immersive and interactive VR."
Along with the VR headset, “Zeiss” also presented a game they developed alongside studio “Side-Kick,” which takes inspiration from the movie “Now You See Me 2.” In the game, players will need to find hidden objects in order to proceed.
More than that, drone-view integration has also been added. So VR headset users who also have drones will be able to see what the drone camera captures through the VR device rather than a screen.
