New details about the upcoming expansion of Civilization VI called Rise and Fall have been revealed. Among the most interesting features include the addition of three new events that are intended to force players into adopting new strategies and changing the methods they have been using up to now. In fact, with this expansion, gamers could literally conquer cities without shedding blood.
As stated in the official announcement post, civilizations are not built by working hard only in the beginning and then sitting back to watch everything go smoothly. With this Civilization VI expansion, players will need to work much harder in order to not only conquer more lands but also keep the domain that they already have.
“Civilizations are not set in stone. You can’t just do all the hard work in the beginning then expect your culture to stand the test of time, unchallenged. It’s not like that in the real world – or in Civilization games. The expansion we’re announcing today, Civilization VI: Rise and Fall, adds new dynamic layers onto the game you’ve already been enjoying. On February 8th 2018, you will lead nations to golden ages. You will watch others buckle under their own weight. You will earn – or lose – the loyalty of your people. The question is, ‘How will you be remembered?’” the post reads.
The most notable additions that the expansion will bring are three events called "Golden Ages," "Dark Ages," and "Heroic Ages." These macro events will have a huge impact on the civilizations that players have built, influencing loyalty and happiness.
In the case of “Golden Ages,” for example, players get a boost in output that will last several terms, Ars Technica reports. During these times, the factor called “loyalty” will play a huge role in how cities are governed or flipped. Once the “Dark Ages” event comes in, however, players will experience the reverse of this mode. This would then make governing much more difficult.
Fortunately, players can work their way towards “Heroic Ages,” which will reportedly offer better boosts than “Golden Ages.” Rise and Fall essentially serves to provide experienced players who have already sunk hundreds of hours into the game more exciting challenges to reinvigorate their experience.
