MALVERN, Pa., Jan. 13, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE:VSH) today announced that the Vishay BCcomponents 196 HVC ENYCAP™ series of hybrid ENergY storage capacitors was chosen as a winner in Electronic Products magazine’s 40th annual Product of the Year Awards. Offering designers exceptional flexibility and enhanced charge and discharge performance for energy harvesting and power line backup applications, the ENYCAP series features the best energy/volume rating in the industry and is available with a wide variety of layouts, capacitance values, and voltage ratings.
The editors of Electronic Products — a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers — evaluated thousands of products launched in 2015. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application, and substantial achievement in price and performance. Vishay’s ENYCAP series was selected because of its demonstrated success in the Passive Components category.
ENYCAP capacitors can offer low profiles down to 2.5 mm high with energy density of 13 Ws/g. The devices are available with up to six cells and capacitance values from 4 F to 90 F, with stacked through-hole, surface-mount flat, and lay flat configurations featuring pins, tabs, and connectors. Voltage ratings range from 1.4 V up to 8.4 V. The capacitors’ unique technology does not require cell balancing and provides soft charging characteristics < 1 A and low leakage current after 24 hours (IL) from 0.03 mA to 0.24 mA.
The ENYCAP series fills a gap in the energy/power spectrum between electric double-layer (EDL) capacitors and conventional batteries. EDL capacitors deliver a considerable amount of power in a short amount of time, while batteries store energy in an efficient way. ENYCAP capacitors provide better energy density than supercapacitors and higher power density than batteries in applications where a different trade-off between these two parameters is important.
The Electronic Products 2015 Product of the Year Award winners were announced in the January 2016 issue of the magazine. The complete list of winners is available at http://www.electronicproducts.com/ProductYear.aspx
