‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 7, entitled "Trompe L'Oeil", will feature Dolores and William as they continue their journey to the front. Meanwhile, Maeve may lead a host revolution as she is now fully aware and in control of herself.
The synopsis for "Trompe L'Oeil" posted on /Film stated, “Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and William (Jimmi Simpson) journey into treacherous terrain; Maeve (Thandie Newton) delivers an ultimatum; Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) considers his next move.”
The title is a nod to the French phrase that means “deceive the eye.” Perhaps the title has a connection to the maze itself.
Now that Maeve is in full control of herself, it is possible that she may lead a host revolution soon enough. The promo featured Maeve saying, “I’ve prided myself in being a survivor and surviving is just another loop.” When a group of fully-suited techs enter her saloon seemingly looking for something, she quickly grabs a knife to defend herself.
In the previous episode, entitled “The Adversary”, Maeve seduced Felix and Sylvester to convince them to change her programming and give her a massive intelligence upgrade. The two then set her intelligence rating to its maximum limit.
After asking to see how the world is created, Felix shows Maeve Westworld in its entirety including how the people are made and how they are programmed as well as an advertisement of the park with her in it.
Showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy talked about Newton’s performance in episode 6’s Westworld tour saying that it was quite “emotional”. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Joy said, “It’s one of those moments where you realize as a writer that sometimes the best thing you can do is step back and let the actors and the director and mood and the music [take over]… when I saw the scene I started crying — I had no idea it would be this emotional. I didn’t know it would be the most important scene of this episode.”
Nolan added, “… there’s an emotional impact and there’s also a weird dark beauty to it. The bison being moved around, the hosts learning their behaviors… a huge amount of decoration and design when into this. It’s one of our favorite scenes.”
Meanwhile, Dolores and William’s storyline will return in the incoming episode as the two embark on a journey together. Dolores says in the promo, “I was so sure of the world and now it feels like a lie.”
‘Westworld’ season 1’s episode 7, entitled "Trompe L'Oeil", is scheduled to premiere on HBO on November 13, 2016. It was directed by Stephen Williams known for his work on ‘Dark Angel’, ‘The Walking Dead’, and ‘How to Get Away with Murder.’
