“What If” Season 2 has yet to be announced by Netflix and fans are wondering what’s in store for this budding thriller series. One of the most asked questions out there is if Renee Zellweger will be returning in the second installment.
“I guess it depends on what's in Mike's head for another round,” the award-winning actress said. Unfortunately, it appears that the chances of Zellweger joining the cast of “What If” Season 2 is pretty slim if the statement of series creator Mike Kelly is anything to go by.
“My intention is for future seasons, assuming we get future seasons, to take place in a universe where the other story never existed. So there would be no Anne Montgomery in the world of [What/If] Season 2,” Kelly told TVLine.
However, while Zellweger’s chances of joining the second entry are pretty small, she could return in future installments as hinted by Kelly. The show creator said that he’s hoping to follow a somewhat similar formula seen in the likes of “American Horror Story” where outstanding casts would join the anthology series as a completely new character. With regards to the release date of “What If” Season 2, nothing has been announced just yet.
Netflix would typically wait a month or so before deciding anything as it’s still observing the numbers produced by a particular series. Given that the previous installment dropped on May 24, there’s a chance that the streaming giant will be revealing something about “What If” Season 2 on June 24. But the safest bet would be to wait for the end of the summer.
Assuming this pans out, then “What If” Season 2 might drop on May 2020. This speculation is rooted in the fact that the first installment took nine months to produce, Screen Rant reported. The next question is: what is it going to be? Well, since the series is being billed as an anthology thriller, expect to see another perverse and riveting storyline that will deliver mind-blowing plot twists.
